How to Use RSS Feeds

You may have seen the words RSS Feed many times on websites and blogs that you frequent, but exactly what is an RSS Feed?

RSS refers to Really Simple Syndication which is actually a format that allows a publisher to get updated content on their website or blog with little effort. Sometimes, RSS is also known as Rich Site Summary. Feed formats used in updating web content include news headlines, blog posts, audio clips and videos.

RSS formats have been in existence since 1999 but its popularity soared during 2005 and 2006. Currently, there are many sites that offer a feed of their content through the RSS format.

Why use RSS?

No longer do you need to search for fresh content every day to provide information on your site.  RSS is a lot more convenient because it allows you to utilise other people’s information and feed it directly onto your website or blog.  You no longer need to rush writing articles or hire article writers. Just search for relevant articles from directories on the internet and RSS allows you to feed them directly to your website.

How to use RSS

Using RSS feeds is easy. You just have to add several lines of code on your web page or blog and your content will automatically be updated.

Usually you need a feed reader or news aggregator software to gain RSS feeds from different websites and display them on your own web pages. Feed readers come in a variety of platforms but there are also the web-based feed readers such as My Yahoo, Bloglines and Google Reader.

After obtaining your feed reader, the next step is to find sites that syndicate content and add the RSS feed to the list of feeds your reader keep tracks of. This is done through subscription and usually by entering the feed’s URL into the feed reader.

Another option is to simply click an RSS icon in a browser which automatically starts the subscription process. The main function of an RSS reader is to monitor the user’s subscribed feeds for new content, downloads them and then provides a user interface to read the feeds.

Any publisher or author will greatly appreciate the benefits they can gain with using RSS feeds. By providing fresh and relevant content on a consistent basis, there’s an increased possibility of attracting more visitors to your site. Additionally, search engine spiders will be prompted to index your web pages and will do so regularly especially as your site gets updated with fresh information.

Affiliate Marketing Training – The Magic of RSS

Every affiliate marketer knows the most common forms of traffic generation. You’ve been preached to since your first ebook about using article marketing, directory submissions, Youtube, forum posting, and the list goes on and on. But, there are other methods out there that aren’t often talked about, that can still help your off site SEO efforts in a significant way. One of those methods is RSS Submission. While many overlook this form of backlink and traffic generation, it is usually due to a lack of understanding as to exactly how it works. Today, I am going to teach you all about RSS, and how you can use it to build backlinks and consistent traffic to your sites.

Many people do not even really know what an RSS feed is, so the first thing we need to go over is a brief definition and background on RSS. RSS stands for “Rich Site Summary”, and is basically a log of all the most current blog postings or information on a website. It was originally designed to help users stay current on the constantly updating news on their favorite news sites, without having to visit every single page every time they wanted new information.

Several major players have what they call RSS Readers. These are online systems, or software packages, that load the RSS Feeds from a website into a single page, and list the news articles much like they would show up in a typical blog. RSS feeds can be a great tool because they not only get your articles, site name, and information out there, but most carry over links with them. It works very similar to when someone publishes one of your articles to their site, only on a much larger scale and with every new piece of information you submit to the feed, instantly.

Now that you have a basic understanding of RSS, let’s talk about how we can use it to help generate backlinks and traffic. We do this by using what are called “RSS Feed Aggregators”. These are websites that will allow you to submit your RSS feed to their database, and once submitted, they will set up a page that lists the contents of your feed. You only need to submit an RSS feed one time in order to get it listed and then you know longer need to worry about updating it. The feed will automatically update with the most current postings or information from your site.

We use article directories, youtube profiles, and other sources in order to put our site links and content all over the web. We like these sites because they get distributed to many different places. People can pick up our videos and embed them, publish our articles, or view our SB profiles and visit our sites, but RSS can work for you in much the same way. The RSS feed pages will get listed in RSS directories, and people can pick them up and either view them themselves, or even post the content to their websites.

If you aren’t currently using your RSS feeds to their full potential, I recommend you look into them farther. They can be a great way to get added traffic and backlinks to your site, and they are very easy to set up!

Optimized RSS Feeds can Boost up your Website’s Visibility

RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is basically, an XML-based format used for the purpose of distributing content. The RSS code forms an XML file which describes the content of your RSS feed. RSS feeds provide a great way to communicate over the Internet. RSS feeds can be used potentially as one of your very rewarding online marketing and search engine optimization services. In fact, if managed properly, these feeds can also result in significant traffic pullers and hence, in this article we would like to put together, some useful tips to optimize an RSS feed for search engines.

Once you get pro with the job of using RSS feeds on your website and then creating them on your website, the second step that you need to take is promoting them. Like any other internet marketing concept, the RSS feed promotion also depends on the good promotion of your website. While creating your RSS feeds, ensure that the title has optimal search keywords. More keywords increase your feed’s chances to come up when a specific search is performed. However, this does not mean that you can incorporate every possible keyword. In fact, note that you can include up to 15 different titles listed for one link, article, content, etc. while the creation of original RSS file.

Always, remember that nobody would click on the RSS feed that does not suit their interest or purpose, hence, include enticing descriptors to attract visitors to your site. Use smart texts that empower your content without letting it look irrelevant. Along with the keywords, another thing that you can concentrate is having a particular ‘theme’ for your content. Make efforts to group your RSS feeds into themes for better search engine optimization.

Try to hold your visitors on your website by ‘instructing’ external RSS feeds to display in new browser windows rather than getting them diverted to a new website. This reduces the chances of your visitors moving to another website. Seldom use of ‘back’ button may prevent visitors to get back to your website, if once moved out. Hence otherwise, it increases the chances that a visitor would continue to be on your site provided the RSS feeds open in new browsers.

As charity begins at home, your feeds should also get quality promotion on your own website. Such an SEO technique would surely enhance its performance on the external search engines as most search engines return results by the most frequently clicked first. Moreover, believe in your RSS feed and post it only your website because if you cannot trust your RSS feeds, then none can. In addition to this, as most feed readers’ list feeds in alphabetical order in their reader, try to feed channels that begin with A so that they appear on the top of the feed list in alphabetically organized readers.

Another technique for good search engine optimization of your RSS feeds is utilizing your relevant and meaningful RSS feeds by subscribing them to yourself. Intelligently, fit in the keywords in the title and create multiple titles to be incorporated in the same content.

Bring Massive Backlinks Using RSS Feeds

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a method of taking content and syndicating it out to multiple sites. It was primarily aimed at newsfeeds and providing content from news sites to other sites.

Like many other technologies, it has been hi-jacked by Internet Marketers who have found this is an excellent way to get backlinks. It allows you to syndicate your content to hundreds of other websites at a click of a button, which in turn will boost your site in the search engine rankings.

In order to use RSS syndication, you have to have an RSS feed from your website. The easiest way to do this is to use Wordpress when creating your website. There are ways of making RSS feeds from normal HTML websites, but it is not always as simple as you may think. Quite often it involves a manual process and manual submission of files. However, there are a few websites that will automatically convert HTML to RSS for you.

Once you have an RSS feed you need to find some places to submit it.

There are two types of site you want to find.

Firstly you are looking for RSS directories. A quick Google will bring up plenty of directories you can use. There is software available you can buy which will automate the submission for you.

Once you have found your directories you want to submit your RSS feeds to them. Manually it isn’t the fastest process, but it can be outsourced. You need to have your keywords, a title and sometimes a description prepared, but that won’t take long.

It is often worth using different descriptions, titles and keywords to ensure each submission is unique. What level of difference this actually makes no one is quite sure, but it does appear to help.

If you are manually submitting RSS feeds then you must keep track of which sites you have submitted where. The reason being you don’t want to submit the same site more than once. Plus, you are likely to want to submit other sites in the future.

The second type of site is the RSS Aggregator. This is a site which takes a number of RSS feeds and combines them into a single feed or webpage. This single feed can be submitted to RSS directories, further increasing your backlinks.

The RSS aggregator can be useful to mix up your RSS feeds on a topic with feeds from news sites on the same topic. This will provide a higher level of authority and provide more bulk to the content.

When using RSS feeds, you need to also remember that many Web 2.0 sites such as Squidoo and many article directories have RSS feeds for the pages you create. These can also be submitted to RSS directories and aggregators in order to further increase links and boost rankings.

Your RSS feed submissions will be updated every time you update your webpage. Therefore, if you are regularly adding new content, you can find it syndicated out to many websites very quickly, gaining you backlinks to your site.

RSS feeds are a great way to get additional backlinks and to help your sites rank well for their keywords. Use them, enjoy them and see the links flooding in.

Why create rss?

What you need to know about RSS feeds.

So, what are RSS feeds and why they are so popular among internet users and web designers?
Shortly speaking, RSS is a technology that lets you know about new information on different sites and blogs. Any user can sign on RSS feed and get the latest news and links to the information on the website. Depending on the version and specification of RSS the abbreviation means:
- Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0)
- RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9, 1.0 and 1.1)
- Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91)

There were only three ways to look after favorite website updates before RSS feeds become available:
1. To visit your favorite website daily/weekly to check if something new appeared. It is a waste of time if you have more than five favorites, especially if you find no interesting updates.
2. To receive via e-mail notifications about website updates. In this case spammers can find out your e-mail and you`ll receive additional advertisements.
3. To use a program to track page updates. This will determine interesting sites and their changes. Apart from downloading and installing you`ll never know what precisely has changed there.

And here comes RSS! The newest and best type of notifications about news or events on sites – RSS feeds. It is executed by means of a special page on your site which is called RSS-document, usually it is rss.Xml. This RSS-document does not contain any waste information such as site design or navigation menu. It basically consists of information on the latest website updates, the additional description of the news and the link to the source page. It should be known that one website can contain not only one RSS feed. It is often that apart from the main RSS feed one major site holds a lot of extra RSS channels with news for different site sections which gives the user more flexible choice if he does not wish to watch for all site news.

How to make RSS feed on a site? There are a lot of ways to generate RSS channels with their advantages and disadvantages. For instance, blogs can be used as such servers give links on RSS document of your blog, which you place on your site and get a "news channel". The other way is to make and manually edit the rss.Xml, for example, by means of Notepad ++. In this case you shall need a good knowledge of HTML and XML, and if the news will appear often, this method will turn to be very irksome. Thus the most convenient way is to use special RSS-generators, for example, RSS Channel Writer. It includes user-friendly tools like creator wizard, RSS editor, FTP manager, automatic RSS ping tool to RSS servers e t c. Being protected from making mistakes during RSS feeds creation, you don’t need to possess with XML syntax knowledge to create RSS feed with this program.

In its turn, receiving and reading RSS feeds is maintained by means of RSS aggregators, either standalone (for example, free of charge FeedDemon), or integrated in a browser (IE7, IE8, Opera, Firefox). Such aggregators usually have fewer functions to work with RSS feeds in comparison with standalone programs` possibilities, but in case of using web browsers it is not needed to install any additional programs. Consequently the users are now ready to use RSS feeds, and web designers need only to use this possibility to involve in website community and to hold there more and more regular visitors.

Emergency Soft is the author of this article and producer of RSS Channel Writer software. The easiest way to create RSS channel is to use special RSS-generators like RSS Channel Writer. This is a powerful RSS feed creator, editor and submitter which will help you to create RSS feeds for you in seconds.
